The day the music died may have been in 1959, but twenty-seven years ago today the world lost not only one of the most brilliant and creative musical minds in modern history, but a bit of its soul and a lot of its conscience.
December 8, 1980 was the day Mark Chapman shot and killed John Lennon outside the Dakota building in Manhattan as he and his wife made their way home.

I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing the moment I heard the news.
Thanks for marking the day.
I remember too. My father woke me up to tell me it had happened, and I watched the news and just cried and cried.
I was a kid when this happened. I remember it like it was yesterday. My mother brought us to his memorial service in Central Park. It was the first time in my life I had seen men crying.
I wasn’t born yet, but I love John Lennon.
He reminds me of Kaoru and had such a nice soul.
