In less than a week, I’ll be
horrified by celebrating my birthday, and although for many this is justanotherday, it’s a big fucking deal to me. After all, don’t we all deserve at least one day out of every 365 to indulge and be indulged?
That’s the theory.
As a gift to myself, I’ve indulged in a bit more body art, as nothing says birthday like new tattoos as one heads into senectitude … or something.
Sam has already presented me with a lovely card, and Cj has promised to rub my back for five minutes on the day, gestures well appreciated and counted amongst my blessings.
For the most part, however, this year’s reality involves unrealized plans and hopes that my next year see things working out a bit more favorably.
Anyone with a better idea is more than welcome to offer it …
Not into tattoos myself. 🙂
My 47th birthday is in October. We just celebrated our 23rd anniversary. I’ve never been into dates that much. Time after all is an artificial construct of the mind coping with space moving upon itself.
P.S. My wife just asked if you have a guest room. 🙂
Yeah … yeah … artificial construct and all that. Still always hope for something special, though.
And, yes … I have room for guests and welcome them! Grab the wife and come on over, Brian.
Hope you have a great Birthday Sandra, I have one coming up as well, at the end of August. They used to have a commercial on TV about Freedom 55. (apparently, I can get a bus pass this year) I was 15 in 1970 when Alice Cooper came out with the song I’m Eighteen.
Age is just a number.
Cheers

Luke the Rocker
Thank you muchly, Luke!
I was in my 30s when I got on Alice’s bus … that was interesting!
Age is a number and a state of mind. It’s not the aging I mind, it’s the bloody birthday!
Haven’t been spending much time on Myspace lately, but will check in to see what you’re up to. I do love your stuff.
Hugs,
Sandra
Yippie! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Yippie!
I hope you have the most lovely day possible, exceeding and surprising you by a million degrees.
I’m not sure what “senectitude” is, unless it is acting like a Seneca indian – in which case it is probably an admirable thing 😉
Last February, when I turned sixty, I resolved that I would get off the dang island more. Had nice plans all arranged (week in Rome, week in London, month in Cornwall) during the month of July. Although money is an issue, I found a way to do what I wanted with some really great friends I met via http://www.couchsurfing.org That organization has changed my life!
The dang island government has pushed my plans back a little as I am still waiting for my residence permit sticker for my passport. It is on the way – things take time on small Mediterranean islands (perhaps Indian Ocean islands also!).
But, go I shall! I have fifty-five days & nights of travel all lined up for the year commencing when I get that dang permit! No small or large island will prevent me… no freaking way.
So, that is going to be my indulgence! (luxury) 🙂
Yippie!
Couchsurfers are GREAT. SIRVAS is another organization that makes it easy to connect globally, up close and in person.
” … things take time on small Mediterranean islands (perhaps Indian Ocean islands also!).” That’s for SURE, sims!
Thanks for the birthday wish.
Since I am your “touchstone” for marking our years, I’ll tell you that this one was only a little freaky for me, just because it marked only one year before the big 60, which, afterall, is only 10 years from 70!! Inside, I keep wondering when I will really grow up. But on the outside, I’m apparently there, witnessed by the fact that just last week, when clambering onto a crowded bus in SF, a 20 something young man GOT UP TO OFFER ME HIS SEAT!! I declined and proceeded to sway and bounce determinedly with the movement of the bus…while inside I was steaming.
For my actual B-day, Lanny took me to our favorite cabin #2 at River’s End in Jenner and we spent a glorious 3 days there. Every year, we take a picture of each other standing on the deck looking out at the ocean. I’m thinking of digging through my box of pictures and putting together a timeline. Now that should be interesting.
You and I have both been through a lot over the past 3 years, but here we are swaying and boucing determindedly, with all that life throws our way! I suggest going somewhere you love and can relax, with people near and dear to you. I’ll lift a glass your way. Jane
Thanks, Jane. Don’t seem to have many options for places to go or things to do this year, so I’ll probably be found sitting at home and falling asleep shortly after the kids do … sigh …
